Evaluation - 7

Looking back at your preliminary task, What do you feel you have learnt it the progression from it, to the full product?

I have learnt a lot of things from the preliminary task to now, one thing that I learnt was to film more footage than you need because you can always edit it out if you do not need it otherwise you will have to film again.

I have also learnt alot more about different camera angles and how they can effect the quality of the end product. In the the perlimeary task we only filmed the basic shots, but in this piece we have used other camera angles and tried to make the film more realistic to watch.

Another thing that i learnt was that continuity areas should be avioded at all costs and we went all out to try and prevent any continuity areas in our final product. They ruin the hole media product which is why when we went back to film for the second time we looked at the camera and started filming exactly in the right spot, and we also had to were the same clothes.

Evaluation - 6

What have you learnt about technologies from the construction of this media product?

From the Making of this piece I have learnt how to operate a camera properly, I have had previous experience with the cameras in the preliminary task but for a shorter time period. I had to use the night mode on the camera this time because we were filming at night.

I also learnt how to upload footage on to Adobe files and how to edit properly, again I have had previous experience editing footage on my preliminary task but it was only a very small amount of footage. This time we had to edit out 28 minutes worth of footage out so it took a lot longer.

I have learnt how to use Blogger and how to navigate Blogger in the correct way. I had no experience with Blogger so it was very new to me, I also learnt how to import thing into the Blogger from Fireworks so I had to learn how to operate Fireworks properly as well.

Evaluation - 5

How did u address your audience?

In our media product we adressed the audience through a range of different camera angels a camera speeds witch will engage the audience. We used "match on action shots" as the couple walk to the alley and we also used it when the two attackers turned the corner of the alley and as they walk down it. We have used "over the shoulder shots" in the arrgument between the couple and the two attackers. And we used "shot reverse shot" when the two attackers walk down the alley-way and look at the couple. We also used wide shots to get the all of the characters in on one shot. All of these camera shots will engage and address the audience more.

We have also used fake blood on the victim as he is beaten on the ground and we made the victim look very badley beaten up. This will address the audinece as being shocking and they will feel more emotional in the piece.

The diologe that we have used is very simple but it will address the audience as being more realistic. There is swearing in our media product but this is because people are getting attacked and we wanted to keep it as real as we could.

The fight scene went very well and looked like a real fight, this will make the audience think that he is really getting beaten up. If the fight scene would have be bad then the audience would not feel as into the film because it looks fake.

Evaluation - 4

who would be the audience for your media product?

The target audience for my piece is mainly for people that like Action/Thrillers. People that mainly go to the Cinema to watch films or who will rent a DVD out. The age range for my film would be around 15 - 40 but it is a very wide ranging film so anyone could go and see it. I, personaly would rate the film a 15 certificate becasue it has strong violence and kidnapping in it and children may find it disstressing. Also people that like violence would like this film becasue it would have lots of fight scenes in it.

Evaluation - 3

What kind of media institution would distribute your film and why?

Through some research I have done, I found that 20th Century Fox distributed the film Taken and could distribute mine. If 20th Century Fox are to big then I would turn to a more local British film distributor, such as Amber films, Eros Film distributor or Hammer film productions. Each of these British film distributors are well established and would take this film to market.

Evaluation - 2

How does your media product represent a particular social group?

In my opinion our media product represents young people and in particular youths that roam the streets. In one of the scenes one of the attackers talks in a very slang way "R u dumb, Blud!" We have chosen this type of slang language because we wanted to stereotype the attackers as being violent youths, whereas not many people at all speak like it.

Individual Evaluation - 1

In what way does are media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

In our media piece we have used the idea and many conventions from the film taken. We have taken the idea of a girl being abducted by two men who then beat up the man. Originally we did not choreograph the fight scenes but we watch some Action films and looked at the fight scenes and realised that we had to choreograph the fight. Another convention that we used was movement in unison, when the two attackers chase the girls and catch her, it is all done in unison. Unison makes the piece look more professional and it keeps the piece tidy.

Editing part 2

Editing

When we came to edit we had around 20 minutes of film to cut down to a maximum of 2 minutes. We started off by editing out all of the out-takes that we knew we were not going to need, this knocked it straight down to about 5 minutes. We then had to rearrange some of the footage because it was out of place. This left gaps in the film and it was jumping from one scene to another. It became increasingly difficult to sort out the more we tried, so we decided to start again.

The next time was more succesfull becasue we went through the film in cronalogical order instead of cutting out the the out-takes first. We managed to complete the editing in one day. and the total time came to around 1:20. However, we had failed to get the correct footage of the ending clip, so we had no proper way of ending the film. I decided to go back and capture the footage we needed to complete the film.

To do this I had to ring up the actor that got beaten up and ask if he could do it again. We met at the same location as we film the day before and I had to look at the footage on the camera to see where abouts to shoot it.

We put tomarto saurce on the actor, roughed up his hair and put mud on his face to make it look like he had been beaten up badley. The total amount I filmed was only 6 seconds but we needed to finish off our piece.

Filming Pictures

Filming part 2

We went to the original place where we had filmed before, but we had left it until it was dark this time so it felt more like a mugging. As we got to the location we came to the conclusion that it was to dark to film that particular alley and relocated to a different one. We had to walk quite far to get to a well lighted alley way but it was the perfect spot to film.

We had given all of the actors scripts so they could go through some lines, so we would not have as many out-takes this time. The filming of the piece went very smoothly apart from quite a few out-takes because people were laughing to much, but it only to around 3o minutes to shoot the whole of the video. We captured around 20 minutes of footage and need to edit down to a maximum of 22 minutes
We organised every thing by e-mailing each other and by telephone. I sent the actors a script and the basic structure of how we wanted the filming to go. This way they will understand what they are doing and we do not have to waste time. We also set costumes; for the kidnappers, they had to were all black to make it seem as if they were real and for the couple we just said smart casual because they had just come back from a party. We did not realy need any props, we were going to give the kidnappers baseball bats to look even more hostile but we decided against it becasue it would be to hard to film some hitting someone with a bat.

Filming

When we got around to filming we had already decided on a set location that we thought would work really well. It was an isolated alley-way in Whittelesy which is were a kidnapping is likely to happen. We made a mistake and lost a lot of effectiveness by filming during the day time because it is less likely that a kidnapping would happen during the day than at night.

We had almost finished the filming and then the cameras battery ran out. We had no way of charging it up so we had to leave the filming for another day. The battery ran out because we had a lot of out takes because we did not give the actors a copy of the script. We decided to end it there and come back another time.

Questionnaire Results

Deconstruction - Wedding Crashers

For each of the scene where the audience is ment to laugh, the shot is medium lenghth so that the audience can see everthing that is happening but it is not to far away. Alot of the time there are also close-ups on the actors face so that the facial expesion can be seen clearly by the audience.

Deconstruction - Wedding Crashers

We have decided to do Action as our chosen genre but the second option would have been comedy. Wedding Crashers is about two guys that crash wedding to get with girls. It is a romantic comedy. The camera angels in this film are more simply than the camera angles in the action movies because there are no fight scenes. Howerver they still keep the 180 degree rule and there are lots of match on action shots and over the shoulder shots.

Deconstruction - Avatar

There is a huge battle at the end of the film and lots of fight scenes take place. In other movies the fight scenes have had quick camara movement to make it seem faster and frantic but because this film is computer animated, the fight scence have a wider camara angle than usual. They do this becasue they want the audience to see the whole of the fight for it to be a more engaging experience.

The film has lots of very wide shots in it to show the size of the scenery, it also uses it to show the scenery and to make sure that the audience see what is actually in the shot. In the scene above the camara also moves around and circles the plane, this makes it alot more amazing to watch.

Deconstruction - Avatar

At the beginning of the film it introduces the main character and the setting. It pans round so you can see machines and Avatars roaming around and who are hooked straight away. It also shows you flash blacks from his life. It does this by zooming in on the characters eyes and a flash of white, this is to make the audience aware that it is a flash back.

Deconstruction - Taken

The fight scenes where very well choreographed and we will have to think about choreographing the fight scene in our piece. They are shot very quickley and from diffrenet angels making it look faster and more realistic and intence.

Our piece is going to be based around the film so we will take most our insperation from this film. The opening of ours will be simalar to the kidnapping in "Taken"

Deconstruction - Taken

The actual kidnapping was shot from lots of different angels in a short space of time to make it look more like a struggel and more frantic. The phone scene that you can see to the left is shot from a wide camera at the start of the conversation and then gradually zooms in on to Liam Neeson, this creates a more dramatic effect

Deconstructions - Taken

At the start of the film it begins by introducing the charactors with a scene for each charactor. Wider shots are used during the opening scenes to make you aware of the location. The shots are longer and you can see very clearly what is happening.

Location

Location

We have decided to film here because it is an isolated alley-way and the sort of location were a mugging may take place. We will not get any distractions down this alley becasue it is away from any houses and not many people pass through there. It is ideal becasue it gets dark at night so it will look like a real mugging and will add effect.

When we deciding on how to take the pictures we thought it would be a good idea to take them during the day because otherwise you would not be able to see all of the setting and the quality of the pictures would be poor.
